APO E GENOTYPING
Apolipoprotein E (APOE) is a genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, Dementia and Cardiovascular disease (CVD). It includes 3 alleles (e2, e3, e4) that are located on chromosome 19q3.2. The e4 allele is linked to higher LDL cholesterol levels even in young age group. It is also associated with an increased risk of developing late onset Alzheimer's disease. Individuals who are homozygous for the e2 allele have an increased risk of developing Type III hyperlipidemia.
