FISH-POSITIVE SELECTION OF CD138 CELLS IN MULTIPLE MYELOMA (6 PROBES)

Conventional Cytogenetics detects abnormal karyotype in 40% newly diagnosed Myeloma cases. Based on conventional karyotyping there are two prognostic groups: Hyperdiploid (48-75 chromosomes ) associated with favourable prognosis and Non-hyperdiploid (<48 & >75 chromosomes) associated with an unfavourable prognosis. Abnormalities detected by FISH after positive selection of CD138 cells, has predictive usefulness namely- High risk disease: if t(14:16), t(14;20), del17p & del1p detected; Standard risk disease: if t(11:14), t(6;14) &/or trisomies detected; Intermediate risk: if t(4;14) & gain(1q21) detected. FISH is performed after positive selection of CD138 cells thereby providing more accurate results.
