t(12;21) (p13;q22); ETV6-RUNX1 (TEL-AML1), PCR QUALITATIVE
Chromosomal rearrangements can produce tumorigenic fusion genes. This mechanism is seen in 15-25% of Leukemias, Lymphomas & Sarcomas. Fusions can be produced by translocations, inversions or deletions. Specific gene fusions in a patient's tumor cells have an important bearing on the management & prognosis. This assay detects cytogenetically cryptic translocations by molecular analysis. It is a common translocation in children with B-ALL and associated with good prognosis.
